Proud Indian

The olympics is finally coming to a close.

In the span of the entire olympics, India has won only two medals, both of them being won by women. Does it show the changing times of women empowerment ? Yes, it does. Does it show the equality of men and women ? Yes, it does. We should be proud of these women who have represented us at the biggest platform available. And I am a proud Indian women.

It is sad that our cricket crazy nation almost always fails to recognize our athletes in different disciplines, and it happens to the fullest extent once in four years. India had many medal hopes riding into the olympics, but none of them performed on the world stage. I believe it is time that our government, our society and our mindsets begin to accept the fact that our national and international level athletes don't get enough attention, and do something about it. It's the cold, hard fact. And it's a sad fact to deal with.

While a lot of us will be disappointed with the overall performance of our Olympic Contingent, I want to lift your spirits! How many of you are aware that the Indian Contingent that was sent to the Special Olympics late last year had won 173 medals ? 173 !! That is an astounding number, and we must be very very proud. I know I am. But we haven't acknowledged these athletes to the extent they deserve, for they are overshadowed by the Olympics itself.

But a note to all those athletes who did represent us at the Olympics and especially at the Special Olympics, I salute you all. Hats off to you, honestly, I couldn't be prouder 🇮🇳
